Volcano's and northern Ireland

Well i think everyone has a volcano story by now and i'm no exception. i was booked to go to do a workshop for the northern ireland embroidery guild, flights all booked then a flippin volcano goes off. Quickly having to adjust my travel plans i ended up leaving for the Birkenhead ferry to Belfast at 5.30am (not my best time of day) having to sleepily learn how to use a sat nav Adrian had lent me (battery konked out just outide Birkenhead panic ensued) it has to be said i'm not the best of sailors but luckily for me the waters were calm.

Anyway after all the stress and panic i did have a fab weekend with the ladies of northern ireland at a place called Drumalis at Larne great food good company and a little bit of a tipsy sing song saturday night.

Heres the Liver building on the way out, i saw a tiny and sickly looking dolphin struggling it's way through the murky waters of the Mersey.

We were workshopping foiled velvet and machine embroidery here are the students results. great weekend

Buzzing at Ledbury Artplace

Had a lovely bejewelled bags workshop at LA this weekend students went away with lots of ideas and enthusiasm, its nice to get the place jumpin again after the long winter gap.

i started experimenting with a new pocket to keep me gin and fags in, i call it the 'into the valley' pocket. the design is inspired by hundertwasser houses.

i stitched it up and piped the edge more to do but i will post it when finished.

this is the surface of Jamilla's bag, her first serious go at machine embroidery, the colours are fantastic.

Sheenagh's surface is very glittery the photo doesn't really do justice.

here's a couple of nearly finished ones of mine

here's one i made earlier to give you an idea of what they will look like in the end.

the Welsh Aunties

My uncle Bunny died last month and after the funeral i gave myself the job of scanning and saving some of the old family photos.

heres my great grandmother at the front and my grandmother second along on the back row, the rest are my great aunties don't they all look terrifying. I don't remember much about them all except that they never spoke english.

not sure who this is but she was a nurse.

This is my dad as a baby cute isn't he
